Azerbaijan and Armenia are going at it again, Deadly border clashes, first since 2020 war.
• Azerbaijan and Armenia border clashes 2022 kills more than 50.
• Azerbaijan forces looks to hit some important targets, two S300 batteries, a base, and multiple AR positions were reportedly hit over the last 24 hours.
Azerbaijan says the attacks were carried out because Armenia posed large-scale provocations in recent days, accusing Armenian forces of carrying out “intensive” firing on Azerbaijani positions.
The fighting erupt mainly because of dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh region which fought and recaptured by Azerbaijan in 2020, from Armenian control.
Azerbaijan says its forces are “in control” of the situation in the region.
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said 49 Armenian soldiers killed in the latest clashes with Azerbaijan.
The arch rivals have fought two wars till now, one in 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, and another in 2020, where Azerbaijan liberated several cities and over 300 settlements and villages of Nagorno-Karabakh region.
• The territory in Nagorno-Karabakh region is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan.
US is deeply concerned:
Washington calls for an immediate end to clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, also expressed concerns due to the reports of deadly border clashes between the two.
Azerbaijan Official Statement on the situation:
The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev official statement says, its forces prevented, the provocation by Armenia.
The statement included, the “responsibility of the current tension rests entirely on the political leadership of Armenia”.
“The Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan controls the operational situation along the border.”
Armenian official statement:
The Armenian deputy foreign minister, Vahe Gevorgyan has accused Azerbaijan of carrying out a “large-scale military offensive on the border of Armenia as well as inside the territory of Armenia”.
He added, Azerbaijan does not want to de-escalation of the situation, but to do the opposite.
Russia on latest clashes:
Russian president Putin also reacted on the growing clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin is making “every effort” to de-escalate tensions, and that he seeks to calm the two parties.
