The Minister of Climate Change and Environment in the United Arab Emirates, Her Excellency, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, also reacted on Twitter, congratulating the fellow countryman on the success.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has submitted a request to host the COP28 conference in 2023. The largest global conference of heads of state and government on climate and environmental issue.

The conformation of the news came when the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum tweeted, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum posted a tweet conforming the UAE's request.

According to a tweet from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum which he did hours ago, he denoted the willingness of the UAE to host the next Conference of the Parties (COP 28).

He mentioned that many countries welcomed the request, and that the Emirates is looking forward to announcing the selection of the host country within the next two days. The tweet was consisting “#COP28UAE”. He tweeted in native Arabic language, here we've put up his tweet's translated version in English.

“The UAE has submitted a request to host the COP28 conference in 2023… the largest global conference of heads of state and government on climate and environmental issues. Many countries have supported our request, and we are looking forward to announcing the selection of the host country within the next two days. The UAE will be ready for the global event if it wins the hosting.#COP28UAE”

The 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the UNFCCC was originally expected to take place from 7-18 November 2022. Due to the postponement of COP 26, from 2020 to 2021, due to the global pandemic, COP 27 will take place from from 7-18 November 2022. COP 28 will take place from 6-17 November 2023.

Asia Pacific Group endorses UAE’s bid to host COP28 in 2023:

Earlier this month the Asia Pacific Group of nations also endorsed the UAE’s bid to host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023, at the COP26 summit in Glasgow.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, leading the UAE delegation to COP26, said: "We are grateful and honoured with the endorsement to host COP28 in the UAE in 2023, and look forward to the confirmation of the UNFCCC.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah said: “We are grateful for the endorsement of the Asia Pacific group of nations, indeed of all our partners in the international community advancing concrete solutions to the very real threat of climate change.

UAE's initiative towards Climate Change issue:

• A critical player in the region, the UAE is now calling for bolder action. This October, it launched the Net Zero by 2050 Strategy, an ambitious national drive to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

• In recent years, UAE has invested an estimated US$17 billion in clean energy projects in 70 countries, with a focus on developing countries.

• In 2021, the UAE organised the regional climate dialogue, and participated in the Leaders Summit on Climate, where it extended its commitment to sustainable agriculture and farming.

• The UAE is home to three of the world’s largest and lowest-cost solar plants.
