Erdoğan Meets Egypt president Abdel Fattah el Sisi in Qatar.
The Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has played a key role in arranging the high level meeting of the two leaders, the Egyptian President Sisi and Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met in Qatar recently.
Both the leaders talked to normalize the ties, between the two powerful Muslim majority nations. Turkish president said “There is no room for hard feelings in politics,” Erdogan also said that "hopefully", the normalisation process with Egypt will continue at the ministerial level.
“Recently, we experienced a problem in a 9-year period. We took this step that evening, especially with the intervention of Qatar’s emir. After overcoming that difficulty, we had a narrow-scoped meeting with El Sisi for half an hour or 45 minutes,” Erdogan said.
Erdoğan normalized ties with UAE and KSA recently:
Türkiye's president Erdoğan has been quite keen in re-establishing ties with the Arab nations. The pro Islamic leader, successfully repaired the worsened relationship with the rich and powerful United Arab Emirate and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the span of the year.
Saudi—Türkiye relationship went down the hill when a Saudi journalist was killed in Türkiye, and that Türkiye blamed Saudi for the incident.
The relationship were already on downfall when Türkiye and Saudi forces were at the opposite end of the civil war in Syria. The Qatar diplomatic crisis also dented the duo's relationship.
UAE and Türkiye relationship was disrupted when Türkiye supported and stood together with Qatar.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) alongside with Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia announced they are cutting ties with Qatar with the allegations that Qatar is supporting terrorism and Islamist groups.
Qatar and the rest of the Arab world normalized their ties last year, and became allies again.
Pakistan—Türkiye friendship grows stronger:
Erdoğan's rapid support to Pakistan is another good example of his willingness to unite and work with the Muslim majority countries, Türkiye in the leadership of Erdoğan has given military equipments like Bayraktar drones, Naval ships to Pakistan. While denied the drone supply to India, long time rival to Pakistan.
Türkiye has also increased the military alliance with Pakistan, as both countries did military drills together recently.
The bilateral trade between the two powers has reached $1 billion goal and the duo is planning to take the trade to $5 billion.
Türkiye stood with Pakistan against India at many international forums, and Pakistan in return did the same.
Türkiye—Azerbaijan:
Türkiye and Azerbaijan have strong economic, military, cultural and linguistic ties. Erdogan has invoked the saying that the countries are “one nation, two states”.
Türkiye's support in the Nagorno-Karabakh war between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a prime example of the duo's flourishing relationship.
Azerbaijan in return plays a vital role by becoming one of the biggest purchaser of goods and services from the neighbour Türkiye and helps the Türkiye economy. Apart from these official ties, both the countries enjoy rich historical and cultural ties, as both neighbours are almost entirely identical in terms of religion, culture, traditions etc.
Türkiye looks to normalize ties with Syria:
Another important Middle Eastern country is Syria, with whom Türkiye is keen to normalize ties. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “Just as relations between Türkiye and Egypt take shape, ties with Syria can follow the same path in the next period.”
Türkiye increased influence in Africa:
Türkiye has its military bases in African countries like somalia, morocco, and tunisia which are Muslim majority countries, and since 2005 Türkiye has quadrupled its diplomatic ties in the continent.
Türkiye increased its embassies from 12 to 42 in Africa, and Erdoğan visited Africa just recently and hosted a summit in Türkiye for African countries last year, in which heads of 16 African nations participated.
Islam is the major religion in many African countries, especially in the north of the continent. In Mauritania, Somalia, Algeria, and Morocco, at least 99 percent of the population was Muslim as of 2019.
Türkiye has increased trade, military equipment sales, and humanitarian support to the majority of African countries. Trade has hit to more than $26 billion, up from $5 billion in 2003. Erdoğan became the first non-African leader to have ever visited more than 27 countries in Africa. He has achieved this since 2003.
