Story: Calculator app comes to iPad, what is unique about it?; 11-06-2024;
Apple introduces Calculator app to iPad, at WWDC24.
The Calculator app is finally made it to iPads, and that too with a bang. The app itself is so powerful, unlike any other calculator app you've seen so far. Here's how;
The app has a unique feature that enables the user to handwrite the maths operations and get the calculation as soon as they draw equals to (=) mark on their iPad. So the basic concept goes like, if you want to add numbers you can just simply draw/write them with Apple Pencil on iPad (in app), and add either a plus sign or if it's a list add a line (__) just like we do on a notebook below the numbers you want maths operation to be done on, and the Calculator app automatically calculates and writes the results for you after the sign (just like we do in notebooks) and that too with your handwriting style.

The iPad calculator app features:
Here are some key features and information about the new Calculator app coming to iPadOS 18, announced at WWDC24:
• The iPad calculator app offers both basic and scientific functions. This eliminates the need for third-party calculator apps.
• Math Notes with Apple Pencil Integration, allows user to write or type mathematical expressions directly on the screen using Apple Pencil.
• The Calculator app recognises the handwriting and instantly converts it into a digital expression.
This allows users to solve complex equations, take notes with calculations, and visualize mathematical concepts.
• Variables can be assigned to values within Math Notes, allowing more complex calculations solving with ease.
• Graphing Feature: Results can be seen in a visual representation via graphs on the app itself, helping user easily understand the impact of the calculation in real time, with alteration to numbers (of calculation) resulting in changes reflecting on the graphical representation simultaneously.
Users can write an equation or type it, and the app will automatically generate a corresponding graph on the same screen, with an option to generate graph.
• Other features include, record of previous calculations, unit conversion feature is included, enabling users to convert between various units of measurement like length, weight, currency, and more.
The calculator app on iPad take use of the big screen, powerful chipset, and most of all Apple Pencil, which makes maths doing even more interactive, learning friendly, and productive in many cases.
The Calculator app for iPad was launched on WWDC 2024 annual Apple event, the event is an Apple event held each year, focusing on software update releases, like iOS (operating system that powers iPhones and iPod Touches), iPadOS (specifically designed for iPads), macOS (operating system that runs on Apple desktop, laptops like MacBooks, iMacs, Mac Minis, etc.) Other software updates for Apple OS running its other hardware line-up like watchOS (runs on Apple Watches.) and tvOS (for Apple TV.) Apple launches its hardware devices on WWDC sometimes as well, like last year in 2023 Apple launched the Apple Vision Pro (an AR/VR wearable device.) This year alongside iPad Calculator app Apple has launched many other software updates just like every year, including iOS 18, introduced many features to various Apple devices like Apple intelligence, SIRI upgrades with AI advancements and many other UI and software upgrades were introduced in this year's WWDC event. The highlight of the event was the launch of iOS 18 (latest OS for iPhone) and Apple Intelligence (incorporating the use of AI within Apple hardware line-up).
