What is Qatar national day

It is the main national celebration. Qatar National Day or Qatar Day is significant for Qataris due to its importance historically.

It commemorates the founding of the State of Qatar in 1878 by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani.

Sheikh Jassim, is regarded as a ruler who laid the foundation of modern Qatar.

On the day, Sheikh Jassim officially succeeded his father as ruler — symbolizing Qatar’s unity, sovereignty, and independence.

December 18 was declared as official national holiday by Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
