world food day date

The international world food day date is on 16 october every year.

16 october world food day.

The World Food Day is aimed at raising awareness for the issue of hunger around the world and the need to ensure everyone has access to a healthy diet.

Why World food day is observed?

Almost 40% of the world population cannot afford a healthy diet, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Here's a world food day report from SOFI:

Ending Hunger, Food Security and Nutrition, SOFI 2025 report

Accoring to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World – 2025 (SOFI 2025) report, in 2024, between 638 million and 720 million people—about 7.8% to 8.8% of the global population—were undernourished.

The world remains off course to meet Sustainable Development Goals 2.1 and 2.2, which target ending hunger, food insecurity, and all forms of malnutrition by 2030.

Food price inflation has significantly undermined access to healthy diets, particularly hurting low-income populations.

Celebrate world food day

World Food Day (WFD) was established by FAO's Member Countries at the Organization's 20th General Conference in November 1979, the day has been observed every year in more than 150 countries.

The world food day also commemorates the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.

The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

People around the world celebrate the World Food Day, in order to raise awareness towards the requirement of not wasting the food, and how valuable it is for us.

People participate in many ways, some share delicious recipes they cook, while other share pictures and videos of food over various social networks.

The need of observing the world food day in these days is much required than ever.

People are need to be educated as, 1/3 of all food produced globally goes to waste, while as many as 811 million people go to bed hungry each night.

food international day

It is important to note the ongoing Gaza's imposed hunger crisis when talking about food international day.

South Africa brought its case against Israel in December, accusing it of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Gaza’s 2.1 million people face starvation crisis as food and other relief aid is not flowing as strip's required.

According to a report online, “forced starvation of Gaza leads to deaths of at least 125 Gazans, including 85 Children.”

According to a report online, Egypt president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi termed Gaza's current situation as, ‘war of starvation, annihilation.’

Another report noted that World Health Organization (WHO) wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Malnutrition is on a dangerous trajectory in the Gaza Strip, marked by a spike in deaths in July”: WHO writes on X.

WHO wrote on X, “Of 74 malnutrition-related deaths in 2025, 63 occurred in July—including 24 children under five, a child over five, and 38 adults. Most of these people were declared dead on arrival at health facilities or died shortly after, their bodies showing clear signs of severe wasting. The crisis remains entirely preventable. Deliberate blocking and delay of large-scale food, health, and humanitarian aid has cost many lives.”

“Nearly one in five children under five in Gaza City is now acutely malnourished, as reported by Nutrition Cluster partners. Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM), which measures the percentage of children aged 6–59 months suffering from acute malnutrition, has tripled since June, making it the worst-hit area in the Gaza Strip.” It added.
The organization said. “This flow must remain consistent and unhindered to support recovery and prevent further deterioration,” it added.

The entire world needs to be fed, and conflicts, corruption, poverty or any other reasons should not prevent the basic human rights of food and security.
