Columbia refuse illegal immigrants, face 25% tariffs.

President Trump slaps Colombia with 25% tariffs on all goods after the country refused to accept the return of illegal immigrants. Donald Trump puts 25% tariffs on all goods imports from Columbia after the Colombian President Gustavo Petro refused to take illegal immigrants. This is the first “tariff war” that Trump has initiated on another country. US president Trump earlier warned Canada of 25% import tariff sanctions.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that the refusal by Colombian President Gustavo Petro to accept the flights jeopardized U.S. national security.

According to news outlet reuters.com the Trump imposed tarrifs will go up by 25% next week, meaning it would be 50%.

Following this there will be a travel ban and visa revocations on Colombian government officials; and emergency treasury, banking and financial sanctions.

Trump said he would also direct enhanced border inspections of Colombian nationals and cargo. “These measures are just the beginning,” he wrote. “We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Columbia responded:

Columbia has ordered retaliation with a 25% tariff on imports from the U.S. Gustavo Petro responded by saying that Trump's actions “do not scare me,” adding that Colombia is “not anyone’s colony.”

He directed Colombia's foreign trade minister to raise tariffs on imports from the U.S. by 25% and to direct exports to “the whole world other than the U.S.”
