    Story: Sunita-williamson; 27-08-2024;

Sunita williamson a Indian-origin astronaut who is currently stuck in Space, but for how long and why?

Sunita Williams, alongside another NASA astronaut butch wilmore, are currently stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) for over two months now. And are hopefully to return to earth by February 2025.

Sunita and butch were a part of short missions on ISS, planned to be an eight-day mission on 5 June. But due to a some issues on returning spacecraft Boeing Starliner spacecraft, the crew is now stuck on ISS for at least 6 months.

According to reports, the spacecraft Starliner encountered problems on its way to the ISS, such as helium leaks and failure of several thrusters to work properly.

Sunita Williams a well-known NASA astronaut who has an extensive career in space exploration, and has been a part of several space missions before.

She has spent significant time aboard the International Space Station (ISS) on previous missions and is recognized for her contributions to spaceflight and science.

She was a part of NASA's Boeing Crew Flight Test, Boeing's spacecraft was carring crew members for the first time ever to ISS.

Now the scheduled return of both astronauts would take place in SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule in February 2025. The Boing Starliner will return to earch with no crew member onboard.

    SpaceX Crew Dragon Capsule

The Crew Dragon was developed by SpaceX, designed for transporting astronauts to and from the ISS.

It is part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, which aims to provide reliable and safe access to space for U.S. astronauts.

The capsule is designed to operate autonomously, with the capability for astronauts to take manual control if necessary.

It includes advanced safety systems, such as an integrated launch escape system that can rapidly pull the spacecraft away from danger in an emergency.

The most important and notable feature of Crew Dragon is its reusability, meaning the spacecraft lands on targetted site, in one piece, making it reusable for multiple operations. This significantly reduces the cost of space travel. Elon Musk the CEO of SpaceX has been on this idea for a several years now, he wants space travel cheap and more accessable to everyone.

The capsule has space for seven crew members and the return of the stuck crew members on Crew Dragon capsule will mark another important milestone in space travel and for SpaceX.

    Who is Sunita Williams:

Sunita williamson is a Indian-origin U.S. astronaut, who has served as a test pilot in U.S., later became NASA astronaut.

She is a well-known NASA astronaut with multiple space missions experience. She was born on September 19, 1965, in Euclid, Ohio.

She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987 with a degree in Physical Science and became a naval officer and a pilot.

Williams later was selected as a NASA astronaut in 1998, and became one of the few women to join NASA's ranks. She then trained for space missions.

She has multiple expedition on International Space Station (ISS), including six months mission on the ISS from December 2006 to June 2007. During this time, she conducted scientific experiments and performed two spacewalks.

She returned to the ISS in July 2012 for another six-month mission.

This period included a series of spacewalks and research tasks.

During her space missions, Williams set records for the longest cumulative time spent in space by a female astronaut (322 days) and the most spacewalks conducted by a female astronaut (seven).

Williams has been involved in various educational and advocacy efforts related to space exploration and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

She has also participated in numerous public speaking engagements and educational outreach programs.
