Mysore The city of palaces is home to its most famous attraction — the Mysore Palace also known as the Amba Vilas Palace.
It is one of India’s most magnificent royal residences, it served as the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty, who ruled the Kingdom of Mysore for over six centuries.

At night, the palace transforms into a breathtaking sight, illuminated by over 97,000 bulbs, drawing thousands of visitors.

The Mysore Palace was the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty, the royal family of Mysore, for many years.
The family still owns the palace but no longer reside in it.
The Mysore Palace now serves as a museum and a major tourist attraction, showcasing the grandeur of royal life and architecture.
The Wodeyar dynasty first built the Mysore Palace in the 14th century.
However, it underwent several demolitions and reconstructions over the centuries.
The current structure, commissioned in 1897 was completed in 1912 and further expanded around 1940.

The original palace was built inside the Old Fort of Mysore in the 14th century
The initial structure was built primarily of wood.
The original structure, known as the Old Palace or Wooden Palace, once stood in place of the current building but was destroyed by fire during a royal wedding in 1896.
This tregedy led to than Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his mother Maharani Kempananjammanni Devi, commissioned the British architect Henry Irwin to build a new palace in 1896.
The Palace has been reconstructed multiple times over centuries, the present palace, made of stone, brick, and wood, stands adjacent to the old fort area.
The current structure, completed in 1912, is sometimes referred to as the New Palace, distinguishing it from the earlier wooden palace that once stood within the Old Fort.

The main complex measures approximately 245 feet in length and 156 feet in width.
The three-story stone structure, built of fine grey granite and topped with deep pink marble domes, features a façade with several expansive arches.
Two smaller arches flank the central one, which is supported by tall pillars.
The palace houses two durbar halls (ceremonial meeting halls of the royal court) and incorporates an series of courtyards, gardens, and subsidiary buildings.
Mysore is often referred to as the “City of Palaces,” as it is home to seven notable palaces.
